FINALLY DIVE- Malou narrates....
Mask on, regulator in, buddy check done, and with a swing backwards into the unknown. Here we go!
One week Ibiza, one week diving vacation, were booked. On the way too early flight in the morning at 6am and in the desperate fight for a coffee before departure, I already meet the first co-divers. And although the time is definitely too early for good conversations, the vacations start promisingly.
Not quite 2h later arrived in Ibiza, the vacation feeling sets in at the latest in the much too warm, rental car - windows open, music on, thoughts off and full speed through the small island. The perfect combination to leave the stressful everyday life clearly behind and get ready for adventurous vacation mood.
The wonderful finca also helps there in the end. With the wonderful Spanish stone-wall design, a large outdoor kitchen, and the pool, which is literally tested seconds after arrival - nothing can go wrong.
Our group fits like a glove from the first moment on: Whether it's cooking, cleaning up, shopping, grilling, putting on music or planning the day, from the beginning everyone quickly finds their strengths and helps out so that a real togetherness develops. Who would have thought that among the 13 diving enthusiasts there really is the perfect person for every task.
On the first morning after arrival, things really get started. At the dive center we are warmly welcomed, any rental equipment is distributed and we start checking the Nitrox. Now we prepare the rest, put on the neoprene and get on the boat. After a short briefing of the dive site, we're already cruising over the waves in the rubber boat.
For some, including me, this will be the first ocean dive. Accordingly excited but full of anticipation, we wait in the buddy team for the green light to be allowed to plunge overboard into the wavy blue. The pool is open! was our cue.
The first moment in the water gives me an adrenaline rush every time, but it's the moment when it really goes deep and a whole new world appears in front of you that takes my breath away. Even on the first dive there is so much to discover, whether schools of fish, barracudas, moray eels, jellyfish, scorpion fish, octopuses, nudibranches or even the Don Pedro wreck; with breathtaking visibility and super dive buddies, every dive is an unforgettable adventure.
► I'm running low on air,
I'm running low on air right now
Need to go up, to the surface
In full volume on the stereo of Emma (the faithful, rented minibus gets a name in the course of the week, of course) these lines run regularly. Underwater, however, enormous progress and successes can be celebrated, be it the reduction of air consumption, the completion of AOWD, Nitrox or Deep certifications, incredible photographic feats or fish determinations and nudibranch sightings.
And the best part? The whole group celebrates every success along with you! At the latest at the spontaneous karaoke evening it is clear that we are an absolute dream team. Who would have thought it? Throw 13 diving enthusiasts together in a finca somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Ibiza and before you know it you've made new friends, thrown a brilliant after-dive pool party and truly made history.
Ok, maybe not history for historical books, but for our logbooks and in our hearts for sure.
The plane takes off again, in the direction of Switzerland and we have only one thing left -
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR DEAR IBIZA!
